Miss Kowalchik – Math 7 – Room 222
(1st period in room 122)
Welcome to Math! We are going to be engaged in a variety of activities this year including group work, individual work, notebook collection (three ring binder collection), homework, quizzes, and tests. You will be graded on all of these. Please do not be afraid of math. Our goal is to give you confidence in yourself and have fun with math!
Classroom Procedures
Procedures are a part of life. We follow procedures for using a computer, boarding an airplane, approaching a traffic light, and attending a wedding. The reason we have procedures in life is so that people can function in society knowing the acceptable and efficient ways other people do things.
There are also procedures in this classroom. These procedures establish our classroom culture.
Entering the classroom
When you enter the classroom, go directly to your assigned seat and sit down.
There will be a warm-up assignment. Complete this assignment silently at your desk.
Leaving the classroom
No one will be allowed to leave the room to get materials for class from their locker, so make sure you come to class prepared.
Leaving the room to use the restroom will only be allowed in the case of emergencies. You will have plenty of time to use the restroom between classes.
End-of-the-period class dismissal
When it is the end of the class period you are to remain seated in your desks until I dismiss the class. You do not dismiss the class. I dismiss the class.
An emergency alert
If during a class an emergency alarm should sound:
1. Freeze
2. Turn and face me: pay attention and keep your eyes on me
3. Be ready for instruction. It is important we move in an organized manner quickly and quietly.
MATERIALS YOU NEED FOR CLASS:
3 ring binder (1 ½ ” or larger)
loose-leaf paper (college or wide ruled)
5 dividers
lots of pencils
NOTEBOOK ORGANIZATION GUIDELINES:
1. For math class you will be using loose-leaf notebook paper. You will find this more flexible than a spiral notebook when you need to rearrange papers.
2. Use the dividers to separate your notebook into the following sections:
a. Noes/Handouts
b. Homework
c. Tests/Quizzes
d. Projects
e. Glossary
3. Notebooks will be checked once a quarter and graded on organization, content, and neatness. This is a VERY BIG part of your grade! They will be cleaned out at the end of each quarter.
